KPFF Consulting Engineers, an industry leader in structural and civil engineering and protective design services, has completed the delivery of comprehensive structural engineering design services for Pure Liquid Wine & Spirits in the Westfield World Trade Center retail concourse. The renovated Pure Liquid store features an architecturally stunning hung barrel ceiling that emulates the inside of a wine barrel and spans the breadth of the store’s space, creating an exceptionally luxe consumer retail experience that marries well with the Westfield World Trade aesthetic. Intricate wall-to-ceiling wine displays keep shoppers engaged while in the store. KPFF’s project team was led by Sean Kelton, Associate.
“The design showcases the wide selection offered by this prominent downtown brand, Pure Liquid Wine & Spirits, which has a loyal, local following,” said Spiro Kremmidas SE, New York Principal of KPFF. “Our team collaborated closely with the architect to create a space that feels far more expansive, while delivering solutions that integrated seamlessly with the existing mechanical systems in the base of the building.”
The floor-to-ceiling glass entryway enables passers-by to see the beautiful displays as they walk by in the retail concourse, while the hung barrel ceiling, designed to look like a wine barrel, entices customers as the display occupies the entire ceiling and showcases the retailer’s branding. The floor-to-ceiling wood displays strategically present everyday wines as well as special occasion vintages and spirits. A glass display at the back of the store is a focal point showcasing specialty selections, while floor displays feature New York State wines as well as monthly trending bottles. Overall, the new floorplan was designed with consumers in mind, accommodating daily in-store tastings and other experiences.
Reinventing the retail space for Pure Liquid Wine & Spirits allows customers to navigate the space more efficiently. The project is indicative of the kind of innovative retail work KPFF has been delivering for clients seeking to activate their retail in a way that engages consumers’ experiential pivot, increases foot traffic and keeps shoppers in-store for longer periods.
