KPFF: A proven leader in landmark design projects : New York City office has been a leader in structural engineering design for diverse work on a wide range of landmarks throughout the New York metropolitan area. KPFF has provided critical structural engineering services in the building of many New York monuments, public design projects as well as historically significant buildings around the region.
“We are proud to deliver impactful civil and structural engineering design work for projects throughout the New York metropolitan area that people see and use every day,” said Spiro Kremmidas, PE, SE, New York Principal of KPFF. “With New York reopening this month, we hope these projects offer an opportunity to reflect on how much rich culture we have to offer in our city, including landmark buildings.”
63 Gansevoort Street
KPFF provided comprehensive structural engineering services for 63 Gansevoort Street, now the home of Common Ground, a skylit café and bar in Manhattan’s bustling Meatpacking District. This historic property was purchased in 1927 by the Rubel Coal & Ice Corp., along with 22-26 and 28-30 Little West 12th Street. In 1939, the buildings were combined to become a garage for auto repairs, gasoline sales, and storage for Ideal Auto Service. The building is a testament to New York’s constant process of building and rebirth.
McCarren Park
KPFF is providing civil engineering services for improvements at this popular park in between Williamsburg and Greenpoint in Brooklyn. The project involved additions, interior renovations, a new storage structure, and overall site improvements, delivering an outdoor seating area, new access ramps, and utility upgrades. We also designed an on-site retention system for stormwater management, leveraging the sandy soils to infiltrate stormwater and mitigate the impact on the combined sewer system. Additional utility improvements include a rerouted sanitary sewer connection and miscellaneous water, electrical, and telecom lines. You can visit on a warm day for a picnic or a game of kickball, for which the park is famous.
