The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) seeks a structural engineer who also understands steel fabrication to lead its Engineering & Research Department.
As the engineering leader, the new vice president will work with:
- the leading steel designers, fabricators and researchers to continue advancing the state-of-the-art in steel design and construction
- a staff of outstanding professionals and hundreds of volunteer committee members to produce superior codes, specifications, manuals and guides

Larry Kruth, who has led the department since 2016, will be retiring later this year. “AISC has a long history of outstanding technical leaders,” stated Charles J. Carter, SE, PE, PhD, AISC’s president. “Larry has definitely upheld that tradition and he leaves big shoes to fill.”
The new vice president will oversee:

- AISC’s research and innovation efforts, totaling nearly $1,000,000 of funds plus significant leveraged funds from outside sources
- technical assistance and conceptual solutions provided by the AISC Steel Solutions Center
- the creation of technical features in Modern Steel Construction magazine and articles for Modern Steel and other magazines
- all other AISC technical activities
