Jaros, Baum & Bolles announces 2022 promotions : NEW YORK, NY – Jaros, Baum & Bolles (JB&B) is pleased to announce its management promotions for 2022.

Brian T. Towers has been promoted to Partner, with Michelle M. DeCarlo and Charles F. Murphy, Jr. named as new Associate Partners. Newly appointed as Directors are Mohammad Ali, Molly H. Dee-Ramasamy and Maxwell L. Hatfield-Biondo, and new Senior Associates include Jeffrey Arcara, Joriel Guerrero, Jonathan Y. Li, Ryan C. McCarthy, Brian T. McKinney, Gina M. Semerad, Wallace F. Workmaster and Adam C. Zuar.  James K. McGarity was promoted to Technical Leader and Carolyn Cioffari to Senior Marketing and Communications Manager.

Brian T. Towers, PE, LEED AP | Partner:  Brian Towers joined JB&B in 2000.  In addition to his leadership role in the firm’s Philadelphia office, he has led the design and construction of high-rise towers such as 30 Hudson Yards, 2 World Trade Center and 7 Bryant Park. His work on offices for major financial institutions in Jersey City, NJ, and Lower Manhattan is complemented by a wide range of data center projects for clients such as Morgan Stanley, zColo Telehouse and Sullivan & Cromwell. The ACEC New York 2018 Principal of the Year, Mr. Towers maintains an ongoing commitment to ACEC through his membership on the New York Board of Directors. 

Michelle M. DeCarlo, PE, LEED AP BD+C | Associate Partner:  Michelle DeCarlo has led the HVAC design for JB&B on projects in the commercial office, transportation and life science sectors, including 30 Hudson Yards, the award-winning redevelopment of Moynihan Train Hall, Columbia University Manhattanville’s Jerome L. Greene Science Center as well as pro bono work for the Lower Eastside Girls Club. Her leadership extends as well to her advocacy for the advancement of women within the industry.  She was instrumental in getting a parental leave policy implemented at JB&B, and in 2018 she launched the JB&B Women’s Initiative, empowering women to position themselves as leaders both inside and outside the firm. Recognized in 2021 with BWAF’s BEVY Emerging Leader award, she was named one of BD+C’s 40 Under 40 (2018), Professional Women in Construction’s (PWC) 20 Under 40 (2018), and one of the St. Francis Food Pantries’ Women of Valor (2019). Ms. DeCarlo serves on the Board of Directors for Commercial Real Estate for Women (CREW) and is its 2022 president-elect. She was previously on the ASHRAE New York Board of Governors, serving as chairperson of its Women in ASHRAE Committee.

Charles F. Murphy, Jr., PE, LEED AP BD+C | Associate Partner:  Charlie Murphy leads the firm’s Science & Technology/Life Science Community of Practice and in 2020 relocated to Boston to support the launch of JB&B’s expansion into the New England market.  Since joining the firm in 2008, he has led the design and development of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems across numerous project types, including S&T/life science, healthcare, commercial office and educational buildings.  He is currently working on projects throughout Massachusetts, including AstraZeneca, BioLabs, and ESG Clean Energy.  Among his more notable projects in New York City are NYU Langone Health’s Science Building and Cure at 345 Park Avenue South. Mr. Murphy has a passion for sustainability that has led him to push the envelope on traditional S&T/life science design and develop unique solutions for each of his projects, including the design of low-carbon lab buildings. He serves as Secretary of the NYC Builds Bio+ Academic Medical Institutions Committee and is a member of ASHRAE Technical Committee 9.10 (Laboratory Systems), 12SI and NAIOP Massachusetts. He was one of Commercial Observer’s 2017 Top 20 Architects, Engineers, and Construction Professionals under 35 and was a 2015 Urban Green Council Service Award Member.  

Mohammad Ali, PE, LEED AP | Director:  Newly appointed Director in the Electrical Department, Mohammad Ali joined JB&B in 2001 and has worked as a Project Manager or Project Engineer on projects such as office towers, residential buildings, and educational facilities. He has been involved in the construction and renovation of a number of high-profile office buildings, including the base building design for One World Trade Center, 74 Trinity Place and 270 Park Avenue. His work at the World Trade Center site also involved the fire alarm integration effort, including implementation of a building-to-building intercom system and design of the fire alarm system IP-based remote annunciators, vehicular RFID system and integration between adjacent buildings. Mr. Ali’s work at the Tata Innovation Center at Cornell Tech is but one element of a wide-ranging portfolio of projects, from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Visitor Center in Brooklyn to the New York Stem Cell Foundation Research Institute in Manhattan. 

Molly H. Dee-Ramasamy, PE, CEA | Director:  Molly Dee-Ramasamy, Director of JB&B’s Deep Carbon Reduction Group, leads a team focused on decarbonization in the built environment. Her experience includes energy and carbon reduction master planning, decarbonization strategy consulting, both new-building and existing-building commissioning, engineering surveys and studies, and special inspections. Under her leadership the DCR Group has expanded into a wide range of market sectors, including commercial, educational, life science, healthcare, museum, hospitality and multi-family residential buildings. She is actively engaged in both city and state sustainability policy efforts, and was co-chair of a NYC Mayor’s Office of Sustainability Carbon Challenge working group, is an active participant in the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability Industry Council, and was selected to join Urban Green Council’s LL97 Carbon Trading Study Stakeholder group. In 2020, she was selected to be a contributing member of New York State’s Energy Efficiency & Housing Advisory Panel and the Decarbonizing New York City Offices initiative. Ms. Dee-Ramasamy has spoken about Local Law 97 on numerous panels and published a number of articles in professional journals. She was recognized as the Decarbonization Champion of the Building Design+Construction Media (BD+C) 40 Under 40 Class of 2021, a 2021 ACEC Young Professional of the Year; 2019 CTBUH Emerging Leaders in New York; and 2019 Commercial Observer 25 under 35.

Maxwell L. Hatfield-Biondo, PE, LEED AP BD+C | Director:  Now a Director of HVAC, Maxwell Hatfield-Biondo joined the firm in 2007 and has led HVAC design on a wide variety of projects in the educational, museum, office, governmental and residential sectors. As the co-leader for the firm’s Higher Education Community of Practice, Mr. Hatfield-Biondo has worked on projects for Columbia University Manhattanville’s central energy plant as well as CUNY’s York College Academic Village and Conference Center, Kent State University’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design in Kent, OH, and the Tata Innovation Center, part of Cornell Tech’s campus on Roosevelt Island in New York City. His work on speculative office projects ranges from Brookfield’s Two Manhattan West to 76 Trinity Commons with Trinity Real Estate. He is also currently working on a major media client headquarters in New York City. A member of SCUP (Society for College and University Planning), he served on the abstract review panel for SCUP’s 2021 North Atlantic Regional Conference and is Dean of the HVAC College of JB&B University, the firm’s accredited in-house professional development program.

James K. McGarity, Technical Leader: Having joined JB&B in 2001, he has throughout his 40-year professional career served as Project Engineer on a wide variety of commercial, educational, hospitality and institutional projects in both the public and private sectors. Considered a trusted advisor by many of the firm’s clients, among Mr. McGarity’s notable projects are One Vanderbilt, One World Trade Center, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center, 30 Hudson Yards and The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards, One Manhattan West, and the TWA Hotel at JFK International Airport.

Jeffrey Arcara, PE, LEED AP BD+C | Senior Associate:  Since joining the firm in 2011, he has led the electrical engineering work, as well as the entire MEP team as the Project Manager, on a wide range of projects, including residential, commercial, educational and exhibition spaces. His responsibilities include project management, coordination, design, calculations, field observations and the preparation of construction documents. Mr. Arcara is one of the co-leaders on the Electrical Standards Committee at JB&B, and has championed numerous improvements to the firm’s vast database of standard design materials as well as developed measures to enhance efficiency and quality. He has spearheaded the Revit content creation effort for the Electrical Department and is also recognized as a key resource for Revit knowledge at the firm. He is Dean of the Electrical College for JB&B University, the firm’s in-house training program. 

Joriel Guerrero, PE | Senior Associate:  Since joining the firm in 2007, he has worked in the Electrical Department on a wide variety of projects, including healthcare facilities, life sciences, high-rise towers and infrastructure upgrades. Mr. Guerrero has provided essential contributions to the firm’s healthcare and life science projects, among them NYU Langone Health’s Energy Building, as well as capital infrastructure improvements, radiation oncology, campus MEP mitigation projects, and lab renovations in New York City. He has also demonstrated his expertise on high-rise towers, including Two Manhattan West and Towers 3 and 4 of the World Trade Center along with the below-grade parking fit-out. He is one of the founding members of the firm’s Social Awareness and Inclusion Initiative (SAII) and was named one of Commercial Observer’s Top 20 under 35 Young Architects, Engineers and Contractors in 2018. 

Jonathan Y. Li, PE, LEED GA | Senior Associate:  Since joining the firm in 2010, he has been involved in the design and development of HVAC systems for commercial office, residential and academic buildings. Mr. Li has recently been engaged in the firm’s efforts in response to COVID-19, addressing indoor air quality measures as they pertain to occupant health and wellness. Strategies under consideration include increased particulate filtration and ultraviolet germicidal irradiation systems as well as other emerging technologies. Some of Mr. Li’s notable projects include, 2, 3, and 4 World Trade Center; 10, 15 and 35 Hudson Yards; the Hudson Yards Experience Center; and the Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park.

Ryan C. McCarthy, PE | Senior Associate: Since joining the firm in 2011, Ryan McCarthy has had a leadership role in JB&B’s Healthcare Community of Practice and has played an instrumental role in the design and management of numerous large- and small-scale projects for NYU Langone Health as well as the MSK David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care, The JACX with Tishman Speyer in Long Island City, and the Kellen Tower for the Hospital for Special Surgery. His responsibilities include the full design of building mechanical systems, which includes system configuration, energy conservation measures, and comprehensive load calculations. He is also actively involved in project management, architectural coordination, development of client presentations, and preparation of construction documents and project specifications. In addition to his project work, he has a leadership role in JB&B’s Knowledge Management Community and serves on the Board of Governors for ASHRAE NY.

Brian T. McKinney, BEMP, LEED AP | Senior Associate: Brian brings to the firm considerable experience in providing energy modeling services and design support for a wide array of high-profile and high-performance buildings. Prior to his career in building analysis, he worked as an architectural designer, with a focus on improving the quality of low-income housing. With a strong background in energy analysis, daylight analysis, thermal comfort studies and life cycle assessment, his career has arced toward a specialization in buildings that successfully leverage occupant comfort with maximum sustainability. Since coming to JB&B, Brian’s primary focus has been on developing the firm’s energy modeling practice. As the first energy modeler on the team, he has played a key role in defining its work as well as in creating the means and methods to do it, and he continues to spearhead the analysis and development of new ideas, strategies and technologies. His projects span a wide range of sectors and building types, including healthcare, life science, commercial, and residential spaces. Highlights include Innolabs, 125 West End Avenue, 55 Water Street, 343 Madison Avenue and 5 World Trade Center.

Gina M. Semerad, HFDP | Senior Associate: A leader of JB&B’s Healthcare Community of Practice, Gina Semerad, since joining the firm in 2008, has been engaged in numerous projects for NYU Langone Health, the MSK David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care, and Northwell Health’s Third Avenue Medical Office Building, all in New York, in addition to Yale New Haven Health, Smilow Cancer Center in Greenwich, CT. Inspired by the challenges posed by technically complex spaces, she has worked on numerous projects utilizing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of airflow distribution in existing operating and procedure rooms toward improved patient and healthcare provider safety. She has taken a special interest in the impact of HVAC design on infection control and has helped develop creative solutions for numerous large NYC hospitals during the pandemic. Ms. Semerad is currently serving on NYC’s Local Law 97 Hospitals Working Group, focused on the unique energy demands of healthcare facilities, and is currently a Provisional Corresponding Member of the ASHRAE Healthcare Technical Committee and a member of the Research and Handbook subcommittees. She has published numerous white papers, was a recipient of Professional Women in Construction’s (PWC) 20 Under 40 award in 2020 and was one of Women Builders Council’s 2017 Next Generation of Women Builders.

Wallace F. Workmaster | Senior Associate: Wallace Workmaster joined JB&B in 2010 and is now a Senior Associate for JB&B Field, with a focus on technical assessment, IAQ, construction administration and property assessments. He has extensive experience in building commissioning and related services for healthcare, life science, commercial office, residential, resorts, mission-critical and LEED green buildings. His notable healthcare projects include NYU Langone Health (multiple projects), MSK West Harrison and HSS Sports Medicine Institute West Side. Mr. Workmaster has acted as the head commissioning representative for high-rise residential and commercial buildings such as 7 Bryant Park, Sabey Data Center at 375 Pearl Street, and 10 and 15 Hudson Yards, and has provided JB&B Field services for the design and construction of SUNY Stony Brook’s Alternate Care Facility in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Adam C. Zuar | Senior Associate: Since joining the firm in 2011, Mr. Zuar has worked alongside architectural firms and developers to provide plumbing and fire protection designs for buildings throughout the New York City metropolitan area. His responsibilities include design, inter-trade coordination, calculations, engineering studies, shop drawing reviews, field observations and reports across multiple market sectors. In the fields of healthcare and life sciences, his recent projects include the MSK David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care, HSS Sports Medicine Institute West Side, New York Stem Cell Foundation Research Institute, and SUNY Stony Brook’s Alternate Care Facility developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Carolyn Cioffari | Senior Marketing Communications Manager: Since joining JB&B in 2005, Ms. Cioffari has played a leading role in improving document production and developing the Marketing Department for the firm. Managing the proposal response effort, she works closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, leading both the content and strategy. This is in addition to overseeing marketing campaigns, pre-qualification forms and leading award submissions while ensuring brand consistency across all firm-wide efforts. She also oversees the design and development of JB&B’s websites, including the specialty sites for JB&B University and LightBox Studios.

Salah W. Aldogom | Associate:  Salah Aldogom began his career in JB&B’s Electrical Department in 2015, and returned to JB&B in 2021 after a three-year hiatus at another consulting engineering firm. Mr. Aldogom’s experience covers a wide range of project types, including data centers, tenant fit-outs, infrastructure upgrades, financial institutions, law firms and commercial office buildings. Working with a wide variety of clients, including Oxford Properties, among his more notable projects are New York’s Hudson River Trading at 4 World Trade Center, Fir Tree Partners, and Olympic Tower, in addition to Equinox Gym in Southport, CT, and 131 Market/165 Halsey Street in Newark, NJ.
 

Alex L. Cannella | Associate: Now an Associate in the Electrical Department, she has, since joining JB&B in 2016, worked on a wide variety of projects, including medical facilities, high-rise towers and office fit-outs. Ms. Cannella has provided essential contributions to the firm’s projects for major medical facilities, including NYU Langone Health’s restoration projects and lab renovations. She has also demonstrated her expertise on high-rise commercial office towers such as One Manhattan West, a Brookfield Properties development, as well as the project’s outdoor plaza and parking fit-out. 

Matthew E. DeFeligibus, PE, LEED AP BD+C | Associate: Since joining the firm in 2020, he has worked on projects across a wide variety of sectors, including commercial, high-end residential, hospitality and healthcare. He is involved in all aspects of the design process, from schematic design through construction administration, for projects that include NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, Mineola, NY, and GSA Veterans Administration, Newark, NJ.Jonathan De Arcos | Associate: Mr. De Arcos works as part of the JB&B Field team, with a focus on commissioning services. Since joining JB&B in 2014, he has completed both new-construction and existing-building commissioning projects, with a focus on electrical distribution installation and testing. He has provided his expertise on a number of projects throughout Manhattan including One and 3 World Trade Center, Hudson Yards, Jerome L. Greene Science Center at Columbia University and One Vanderbilt, affording construction managers and clients a better understanding of the design and operational requirements of their electrical systems. Additionally, he has extensive nuclear power plant operations experience from his service in the United States Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program, where he served onboard a fast-attack submarine.  

Grace M. Falone | Associate, Technologies: As a member of the telecommunications, security and AV design group, Ms. Falone’s projects span numerous market sectors, including healthcare and research centers, educational facilities, financial institutions, hotels, commercial office buildings and cultural centers. Her work has included the design of research centers, such as NYU Langone Health’s Science Building and Cure at 345 Park Avenue South, as well as cultural centers such as The Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center at the World Trade Center. 

Maxwell S. Schoen | Associate:  Mr. Schoen currently works in the Electrical Department, with a primary focus on high-rise base building design covering a wide range of building types and market sectors. His construction phase oversight includes coordination with building owners, architects, construction managers and contractors and he is increasingly involved with project management, design, and preparation of construction documents. Among his more notable projects are the Citigroup Global Headquarters at 388-390 Greenwich Street, 35 Hudson Yards, Sven and Halletts Point.

Timothy J. Tiu | Associate, Technologies: Working in telecommunications and security design as well as first responder and cellular distributed antenna systems with JB&B Technologies, Mr. Tiu’s projects span multiple market sectors, including healthcare and laboratory research, educational, financial, public transportation, hotels and commercial office. His work includes projects for the design of research centers, such as NYU Langone Health’s Science Building and Columbia University Manhattanville’s Jerome L. Greene Science Center. 

Jessica Way, Associate, Graphic Design Manager: Since joining the firm in 2015, she has played an instrumental role in the development and utilization of in-house media materials as well as a wide array of external marketing tools, including social media. She has played an instrumental role in the branding of both JB&B as well as its numerous service lines. In 2021 she was part of BWAF’s Emerging Leaders program and in 2019 she was honored as one of Women Builders Council’s Next Generation of Women Builders. Ms. Way is a member of the firm’s Unity.Comm Committee, an employee resource group envisioned as a way of keeping the focus on the “unity” part of “community” and maintaining personal and social bonds as the JB&B community works virtually.
