NEW YORK, NY – The Janus Property Company was pleased to lead a panel focused on the current market status of the emerging life sciences landscape in New York City at the Young Men’s/Women’s Real Estate Association (YM/WREA) June Luncheon. The panel included Scott Metzner, President of the Janus Property Company and Matt Malone, Senior Vice President, Taconic Partners. Jonathan Schifrin of CBRE’s NY Life Sciences team moderated the lively discussion.
The luncheon provided a unique and transparent presentation of the current status and future prospects for the life sciences in New York to members of YM/WREA. The Janus Property Company was founded in 1989 and is a leader in New York’s emerging life sciences real estate sector, specifically focused on the growing Manhattanville Factory District, the largest privately-owned development in upper Manhattan, encompassing four acres and 1.1 million RSF. The master-planned District includes the newly completed Taystee Lab Building, a 350,000 RSF purpose-built life sciences building, as well as the 150,000 RSF Mink Building, home to Renal Research Institute, Volastra Therapeutics, HypotheKids and Hemogenyx Pharmaceuticals; the recently renovated 200,000 RSF Malt House Building, home to Communitas America’s North American HQ; and the Sweets Building, which houses the Harlem Biospace incubator.
The District’s easy accessibility and adjacency to City College, Columbia University and its Medical Center complex has allowed it to quickly emerge as one of the leading life sciences clusters in New York City. It is home to numerous emerging and established for-profit and not-for-profit players in the life sciences field.
“The life sciences industry is of growing interest to New York’s real estate community. It was especially gratifying to interact with our future leaders at their luncheon panel. There were a lot of good questions asked, including related to the flight-to-quality for building infrastructure and location. It was a fun opportunity to exchange ideas and to highlight the extraordinary campus of first-class buildings in the District. Janus and I look forward to hosting the group again on-site, including for tours of our various buildings and campus, at the end of July.” said Scott Metzner, President of the Janus Property Company.
